
The media coverage of the 50th anniversary of the Spodek arena in Katowice has been awarded in the PR Wings competition for the best public relations campaigns in Poland. The award in the “Product PR” category is the 23rd for Imago Public Relations. The campaign was also recognized in the “Communication during the COVID-19 pandemic” category.
“50th anniversary of the Spodek arena in Katowice” is a project that the Imago PR agency conducted together with the facility’s manager – PTWP Event Center – in the first half of 2021.
Spodek’s half-century anniversary fell during a time of pandemic restrictions. The architectural icon of Katowice was unable to celebrate its birthday in a way consistent with the facility’s purpose – with numerous guests, in an atmosphere of fun, generating positive emotions. A temporary C-19 hospital was operating in the immediate vicinity of Spodek at that time.
– Working for Spodek in such special circumstances was a professional challenge for us, but also a source of great satisfaction. We nurtured this jewel of Katowice in its jubilee year with the utmost care and commitment, thanks to which Spodek celebrated its birthday – statistically speaking – in every Polish home – says Rafał Czechowski, founder and managing director of Imago PR. – Our work would not have been effective without the goodwill and commitment of many journalists, whom we thank very much. It is also worth noting that in the Silesian-Zagłębie metropolis, the jubilee was strongly emphasized by the city of Katowice, especially in outdoor campaigns and on social media – he adds.
By using traditional tools for cooperation with the media: press releases, interviews, expert positioning, meetings with the media, and managing knowledge about the facility during individual visits and tours of Spodek, PTWP Event Center, together with Imago PR, achieved unprecedented results.
Thanks to the campaign, the 50th anniversary of the facility’s commissioning was noticed nationwide. Nearly 6500 publications and mentions were generated in SoMe, with a total reach of over 108 million.
From Spodek, Piotr Stelmach hosted a three-hour broadcast “Zielony Żoliborz” on Radio 357, fully dedicating it to the facility, the Katowice branch of TVN broadcast the station’s 20th-anniversary celebrations, and journalists from numerous media conducted interviews with experts in debates dedicated to Spodek, broadcast on its birthday from an online studio directly from the heart of the iconic hall.
– Spodek is a “self-playing” instrument – one might say. A full, bustling Spodek certainly is. Spodek during the pandemic, adjacent to the temporary C-19 hospital, not necessarily – concludes Rafał Czechowski.
The PR Wings competition is organized by the Association of Public Relations Agencies. The winning projects are selected by several dozen jurors, and an independent auditor oversees the competition.
