Why do we put effort into an event associated with literature and theatre in Imago Public Relations? The competition for one-act plays in Silesian is a non-business emanation of what is crucial in our work: the combination of creativity and the ability to spin a narrative. On a daily basis, we try to do this with a professional flair, adding value to our customers’ brands. Once a year, we are happy to observe how playwrights – amateur playwrights, many of whom represent a truly professional level – compete with each other.

Among the three winners of the ninth edition of the “One-Act play in Silesian” competition, women took the first and second place. The third place was taken by a man, but he wrote a wonderful play about… a woman.

The first place was taken by Monika Kassner for a one-act play entitled “Pōnbōczkowi świyczka”, a dramatic post-war story based on the true experiences of her family. The second place was taken by Joanna Sodzawiczny for “Żywobycie świynty Barbary”, and the third place by Krzysztof Kokot for “Anna”.

Over 30 works were submitted under this year’s competition. Most of the participants were authors have been taking part in the competition for several years, there were a few professionals who regularly publish and are already well-known people in the writing industry, but new names have also appeared.

The jury traditionally consisted of: Ingmar Villqist, the originator of the competition; Mirosław Neinert, director of the Korez Theatre; Piotr Zaczkowski, director of the City of Gardens (Miasto Ogrodów) and Waldemar Szymczyk from Imago PR.

The gala, which took place on 13 December at the Korez Theatre, started out in an unusual way – with the “Gdowa” play directed by Joanna Lorenc, based on a one-act play by Mateusz Czyba, which was awarded in 2015. Actors from the Adult Theatre in Bieruń performed in the play.

A book with the best one-act plays from last year – “Krauzy” – also had its premiere.

The competition was organised by: Imago Public Relations, City of Katowice and Gazeta Wyborcza.
